Who we are

Why choose us

We are a member owned, community based financial institution, and providing a professional service to our members is at the core of everything we do.

We serve the communities of Kingscourt, Bailieborough, Moynalty and Cootehill. Our registered office is in Kingscourt and we also have offices in Bailieborough and Cootehill.

We are a “not for profit” organisation, which means any surplus made in a financial year is used to support and benefit our members, by investing in our services or paying a dividend to our members (when it is prudent to do so). We provide our members with a range of financial products and services to help support you on your financial journey.

Link Credit Union has become one of the larger Credit Unions in the country with approximately 23,000 members.

Our mission

Our mission is to be the number 1 provider of financial services, supporting our members 24/7 to meet their ever-changing financial needs.

History

History of our Credit Union: When four linked together

Kingscourt Credit Union

Kingscourt Credit Union was 1st opened on 15th February 1971 following a study group that was set up in November 1970.

The “office” was a room in St. Mary’s Hall that was operated by volunteers and open Saturday nights and Sunday mornings only. Later a new office was built near Market Square and a computer system was introduced. Due to an increase in membership, Kingscourt Credit Union Ltd acquired and refurbished the former Paddy Willy O’Brien’s newsagents on Main Street, which was opened in July of 1992. The Common Bond was also extended at this time, to serve the community of Nobber, as these surrounding areas were not already being served by any other Credit Union.

Bailieborough Credit Union

Bailieborough Credit Union was 1st opened on 23rd May 1966 following a study group set up in 1965.

The first office was located in the courthouse, opening on Fridays from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. In November 1966, the office moved to Swift Travel Agency on Main Street and remained there until an office on Lower Main Street, was rented from the late Tommie Martin. The Credit Union saw significant growth over those years, so much so the Directors decided to purchase a dwelling house in Anne Street in 1976. This building was used until 1997 when the Credit Union moved to its current location on Main Street.

St. Mary’s Moynalty Credit Union

St. Mary’s Moynalty Credit Union was first opened in January 1984 following a study group set up in 1982.

In April 1988, our Common Bond was extended to serve the communities of Mullagh & Kilbeg, which were not already being served by any other credit union.

On 4th August 2015, all 3 Credit Unions came together to become Link Credit Union.

Cootehill Credit Union

On 15th November 2022, Cootehill Credit Union joined Link Credit Union.

Cootehill Credit Union first opened its doors in February 1967. The first chairman was Brian O’Reilly , Norbert Igoe was first secretary and Brian Mulligan the first treasurer. From humble beginnings the credit union has established itself over the years as an institution of Cootehill and the surrounding area.

Cootehill Credit Union has grown and has achieved a membership approaching 6,000. Over the years Cootehill Credit Union has continuously offered both financial and community support to its members.
