Art Competition 2017

Link Credit Union Launched the 2017 Credit Union Art Competition
The theme of the 2017 Credit Union Art Competition  was ‘SET YOUR IMAGINATION FREE…’

All budding local artists were invited to submit entries for this year’s Credit Union National Art Competition, illustrating the theme “SET YOUR IMAGINATION FREE….”

Link Credit Union were calling on our members to “Set your Imagination Free” for the 2017 All Ireland Credit Union Art Competition. The hugely popular Art Competition, now in its 34th year, attracts up to 30,000 entries each year through 250 Link CU Art Competition 2016credit unions. The competition is open to age groups across the spectrum, including children aged 7 years and under, right through to anyone aged over 18 years. There is also a Special Category for those with physical or intellectual disabilities.

The “Set your Imagination Free” theme is designed to give everyone, young and old, full scope to express their thoughts, imaginings, and anything that inspires them. Participants are encouraged to interpret the theme in any way they wish and to let their imagination alone set the rules for what they create.

The annual competition is part of the Irish League of Credit Unions’ commitment to supporting the artistic development of both young and old in communities around Ireland. Producing and creating art can have many benefits for adults, such as reducing stress and aiding the development of creative problem-solving skills.

For children, painting and creating art can nurture fine-motor skills and neural development, while allowing them to express their emotions.

It is about encouraging and rewarding self expression, creativity and imagination among young artists throughout Ireland. The competition requires entrants to draw or paint posters on the theme using pencil, charcoal, pen or ink, felt-tip markets, crayon, pastel, water colours, gouache, acrylics, oils, poster colour or collage.

subjects_-_art1There are two categories – General and Special – with five age groups in each: 7 years and under, 8-10 years, 11-13 years, 14-17 years, 18 years and over (and a further Group section in the Special Category). The Special Category encourages participants with a physical or intellectual disability to submit entries in free expression without the restriction of the competition’s official theme, if they so wish.

Link Credit Union invited anybody with an interest in art to enter the local competition. Closing date for entry to Link Credit Union was Friday 13th October 2016.

Winners, runners-up and merit award winners at local level go on to represent the Credit Union at regional level and if successful, at national level!
